This week has been a very intense week in Staff and probably for you as a user as well. We have migrated into a new system and when we did this, we discovered that our server hadn't been configured correctly.
The site was down for 2 days but is now up and running again. The website is now working fine and is a lot faster. The problems didn't stop there however. Our backup was corrupt, resulting in a ~99% loss of the forum and a 100% loss of the torrents but please, don't fear. We will begin reconstruction a.s.a.p.
You're probably asking yourself right now, how we could make such a simple/stupid mistake? Well, everyone make mistakes, this was one of ours. We have now taken better precautions in order not to be in this mess again.

It’s that time of year once again and to help all of our awesome members celebrate the holidays in a true spirit of giving, we the staff are going to give you a full two weeks of FREE LEECH. Starting at 12am GMT on Sunday the 18th of December and ending at 12am GMT on Sunday Jan 1st, 2012 ALL TORRENTS WILL BE FREE LEECH!
Grab your favorite games, hunker down for the night and wait on Santa while rocking that special game that you just have to have.
After the troubles of this past week, we figured that you would appreciate a more pleasant announcement. Or multiple announcements. Over the next few days we will feature a large number of Freeleech and Neutral Leech* picks in order to celebrate some of What.CD's top contributors—the best entries from our recently completed Got Music? competition will also be announced.
Leading off the first announcement are picks from former SysOp A9 and current Developer porkpie. Without their most recent efforts, the site and tracker would not be functioning properly, leaving us with less desirable means of obtaining our music.
* (TM picks will be Neutral Leech. The rest are all Freeleech. For an explanation of how Neutral Leech works, read the first post in this thread.)
Now that we've settled into our new server, it's time to announce our first freeleech period in 3 years. That's right! All torrents will be considered free to leech starting from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th of May for all enabled users including those on probation. During this week no download will be counted, only upload matters. Also uploading new torrents will be completely turned off including request fills. We will introduce a countdown clock and timer soon to keep you informed.
And there's a catch, or a carrot if you will, too. We have recorded a total number of peers on KG at a certain point of time. If we have doubled that amount at the end of the week-long leechfest, we will give you another week of festivities within the next two months. So keep on seeding those torrents after you've grabbed them. We will announce the number of peers to aim for before the 9th.
The basic idea of this leechfest is two-fold. Firstly, we want to stress-test our new tracker and see where its limits are at. Perhaps we need to do a tweak or two here and there. Secondly, we want to reward everyone involved for making KG such a success it has been throughout the years. We wouldn't be anything without our loyal users. Soon it's time to empty your bookmarks.
Thank you for such an amazing response to the recent donation appeal, thanks to your generosity not only has the back log been caught up you have also secured the sites payments for the next 6 months.
For this reason we have decided at this time to take down the donation page as we dont want to draw too much attention from paypal and it also means we can look into making some changes to the donation page itself.
